Tips for working from home? #1
Anyone got any tips for working from home or anything that helped them?

I'm a uni student so all my lectures are online and i'm at home currently, getting distracted very easily and lacking the motivation to do any work most days. I get it done but very inefficiently.

Just wondering if anyone had any advice.

Thanks Smile

I feel you man, online classes are really fucking up my motivation for uni.
All classes get recorded and uploaded so I can kinda watch them whenever I want or need to study for them.
I have maybe attended 3-4 online lectures during this whole pandemic, I just skip them all :?
No tips sorry i'm suffering the same as you
i love you, léon

If you have the luxury, I recommend performing work on a separate device or install to avoid distractions. That way there's a clear separation of work and leisure.

Towards the end of my degree all classes were forced online, due to the pandemic. I graduated, but I can definitely sympathize with people that aren't already used to the online curriculum.

Is the lack of motivation due to being distracted or otherwise?

Yep it sucks, I've been skipping a lot as well.

Theres nothing to hold you accountable for not doing it, except the exams at the end of the year I guess.

What do you mean by separate device or install?

I'll just end up going on YouTube or Netflix or something like that. I know all I need to do is just turn off my phone but that is much easier said than done.

Lack of motivation is just due to being distracted yes. Everything else is fine i'm working out every day and playing with friends etc.

Give yourself a certain amount of time everyday to focus on what you gotta do. And do it within 30-60 mins of waking up. I completely know this feeling. While I haven't done this in the pandemic, I have done online learning when there were even more distractions because you could go out.

I'll give an example.
My lecture recording might be 1-2 hours long. I'd wake up, get showered/dressed as I would normally for going in to class, and set myself a time of say 10am to start by. Literally set myself a timer for 2.5-3 hours. In that time, I'll watch the lecture/do the reading etc, then use the remainder of the time to do the homework/coursework stuff. Then, my stuff would be done about lunchtime or 1pm. Then I'd have the rest of the day to do whatever I wanted. The mental stress levels were so much better. I wasn't worried about leaving it all too late and I felt pretty good about myself.

Sincerely,

Someone who spent the entirety of their undergrad as a severe procrastinator.

P.S. the "do it after waking up part" is essential, otherwise you start doing other stuff and never end up getting the work done as you're too distracted.

In that case, getting rid of every distraction, will sort out your motivation.

If distraction & motivation Is purely holding you back, then as per above, you'll be good to go.

i think he meant that you should install new distro/OS that doesn't include apps and stuff that takes your time like Discord/FB/Youtube etc and also you put your phone away when you study (better to put on DO NOT DISTURB).

That sounds like a good idea. I find my motivation and discipline to work decreases throughout the day so I will try right after my shower in the morning.

Yes true, think I will clear out my room of all distractions so I can focus easier.

Thanks

Ah right, that is a good idea I have another laptop I can use.

Thanks

I usually don't work and/or do anything important ex: studying, working, etc at night. Night time is probably when most people get distracted or get lazy & loose their focus.
I'd recommend you to sleep at night and wake up early in the morning, take a cold shower, have a good breakfast with coffee and then do what you have to do before night time.
