shock's HTML guide 1 [Basic HTML] 09-20-2013, 08:28 AM
#1
Hello HC! This will be my first tutorial I am writing, so please give some suggestions in the comments. I am writing this tutorial because the Web Dev section sort of lacks essential guides, and because I have a 7 hour car ride ahead of me. Enjoy!
First, some brief history on HTML:
In the 80′s and very early 90′s, getting
information stored on computers was usually a
big pain, it was so hard that Ph.D physicists were
annoyed while trying to share data. One of them
who is now knighted, and very famous, Sir Tim
Berners-Lee, decided to make an easy way to
cross-reference text, with hypertext links.
Around 1993, about 100 computers in the whole
world were made to host and view HTML pages,
and those interlinked pages were called the
‘World Wide Web’. From then on, web browser
software has been made, and new languages of
coding have been written.
Enough of the history, let’s get to coding:
Let’s start with some basic lines and parts of
HTML code. Here is a very basic ‘hello world’ page:
Now to explain what that all means, the html
tag shows what language the webpage is written
in, it is IMPORTANT to put this in to your
webpage, as your browser what technically not
know what language it is written in until you put
that there.
The head tag is where you will usually put stuff
about the page, like for example the meta tags, the stylesheet and the title.
The body tag shows where the main text of the
page is going to be shown, and is mostly where
the content is placed.
The h1 tag is for Header one, header tags
go from 1-6, and have got different sizes and
styles. It is mainly used for titles of stories,
guides, important stuff, etc..
The /head, /body, /title, and /html tags are
all used to end the tags.
I hope you enjoy the tutorial! I will have many more to come.
Check out my blog for some other guides.
