Microsoft is normally tight-lipped when it comes to announcements. There's been some teasers and signs pointing towards Windows 11 possibly arriving in the near future. Windows 10 was released in 2015 and Windows 8 was released in 2012.

Microsoft will soon reveal their next generation of Windows at an upcoming press event later this month. Here is what we know so far about Microsoft's new version of Windows.

The upcoming press event is scheduled for June 24th and coincides with a public webcast of the live Windows reveal at 11 AM EST.

Way back in 2015, Microsoft's developer evangelist Jerry Nixon stated that Windows 10 is the last version of Windows:

"Right now we're releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we're all still working on Windows 10." - Jerry Nixon.

However, as pointed out by Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley and highlighted by Rich Woods on Twitter, Microsoft has never publicly said in plain words that Windows 10 is the last version of the Windows operating system.

Only one developer evangelist only gave the statement. However, the Microsoft PR team never denied it.

In fact, Microsoft is slowly dropping hints that suggest Windows 11 is around the corner. For example, the company recently uploaded 11 minutes long relaxing music video on YouTube, which shows off sunlight passing through the Windows logo to form the number '11' on the surface.

At the moment, we don't know what the company has in store for us and whether the update is going to be called "Windows 11", but it's safe to assume that it will be based on the long rumoured Windows Sun Valley design, which was recently confirmed in a Microsoft documentation.

An educated guess would be much of a muchness to Windows 10.

Sure, but correct me if I'm wrong. When Win10 first came out, one could easily run it on the same hardware that used to run win7 without any performance hit. But resources needed for win10 to run smoothly have risen very much over time. Yet, the declared minimum and recommended requirements are still the same.

It reminds me of Chrome OS, or DeX Mode on Samsung Tablets, but I do not inculpate Microsoft.

I cerebrate Microsoft is endeavoring authentically arduous to make Windows more appealing to the non-enthusiast general public. With things becoming more and more cloud-based, a full-fledged version of Windows like we have seen in the past is plenarily nonessential for non-nerds. People are going to Chrome OS or doing everything on smartphones or tablets because nowadays those devices do everything most people need.

I cerebrate they are endeavoring to design Windows to "win back" people who have switched to Chrome OS or Android/iOS tablets for their day-to-day computing needs by making it resemble something they are habituated to, and bringing to the forefront the things that most casual users need, while the more "geeky" stuff gets put on the back burner.

It withal looks to me like Microsoft is endeavoring to make the UI more touch-cordial for tablets and convertible laptops, something we have already seen afore with Windows 8. I wonder how this will work for our keyboard and mouse (desktop) users.
