Thank you for this, I'll be trying it out soon. So basically, I'm going to run it in a VM and take a snapshot so that, if it asks to be activated in the future to use it, I'll just revert to the clean install.

I'm afraid it's not enough, as I guess the activation system relies on an internet connection, so that as soon as you are online, it will ask for activation again.
Hope I'm wrong ,though. It may be well worth a try

You're only half right. You can jam the activation. RIP Windows firewall but you won't have to activate, unless of course they force activation checks on reboot, lol, because fuck the end-user.

I don't know if it's allowed to discuss about it here, and guess it isn't, but can you give details about this?
Let me make it clear: it's not about piracy (I only use Windows on my work PC, which is not mine and is licensed anyway, and would probably benefit from a free upgrade campaign as it was with Windows 10. Linux Mint at home), it's about deep knowledge and innate curiosity about how things work.
So if it's not allowed, never mind, I'm fully ok with that
