Brackets is really nice for web development, good choice.

If I have access to them then the terminal-based editors are what I like - vi is a favorite of mine although I've started to warm up a little bit to nano on the dinky single-board computers.

Sadly, I can't have them everywhere, so I also use Notepad++ a good bit as it just works.

I still use git in terminal most of the time, but the changes view is a huge time saver.

yeah it really helps. i'm building my current website (illumin8.gq) in Atom right now and I cannot live without it at this point. i've tried most editors but never really found a good one till Atom. that's after using Notepad++ for years

Definitely wrong section, and thread. You generally don't make software with Notepad (or any variant of it). You need a text editor, a compiler, linker, and in some cases even a runtime. Often, these are packaged together in something called an Integrated Development Environment.

@g4lyfe
However, IDEs aren't always a good thing, and often take up a lot of memory.

The command line is always the (best and) most flexible development environment.

Unless you are doing web design.

Well, web design isn't software...it's scripting (or even worse, markup)

"best development environment"

I never said software.

Personally, for web development I use Brackets. (But I haven't tried that many things)
