What editor do you use? - Inori - 07-07-2017 What editors do you guys use for everyday projects (i.e. things you wouldn't need VS-like IDEs for)? For a while, I was impartial to Sublime Text 3 because of its plugin API and the relative ease of configuration and themeing. When I moved over to Linux and discovered that installing Sublime is a bigger pain in the ass than I'd care to put up with for a text editor, I moved over to Atom. Atom has all the benefits that Sublime offers and more: plugin development is integrated with the Electron interface via JS, configuration and settings are easy to understand and are all well-documented, there's a huge community of developers, there's a dedicated command line package manager (apm), and even the default look and feel is really nice. Throw in a few packages, a nice theme, and spend some time customizing settings and the whole environment looks tailor-made. In addition to Atom, I've also customized the hell out of nano for command line editing since I'm too lazy to learn vim or emacs properly. RE: What editor do you use? - zorrophreak - 07-07-2017 I had to vote for Sublime just because I've been with it for so long. However, Atom is certainly a great editor, just not for me. Terminal editors are certainly not attractive, but definitely functional when necessary. As for the argument, Nano is great, vim is okay, I've actually yet to try emacs (go ahead kill me) but maybe one day. RE: What editor do you use? - Blink - 07-07-2017 Nano all the way, there's no way I'm leaving a terminal to edit a file. Hmm... I should finish my nano clone... Maybe I'll start using ncurses instead of outputting raw ANSI/VT100 escape codes, RE: What editor do you use? - ziqolu - 07-07-2017 I still use notepad++ just because it opens quickly and just seems very user-friendly. I should probably try some of these out instead though, I don't want to remain too outdated. RE: What editor do you use? - BORW3 - 07-08-2017 Vim, master race. Anything else is just waste. RE: What editor do you use? - Die - 07-08-2017 Well at first I was using Notepad++ but after a while I moved to Atom because it just looks nicer and it's easier to use it. RE: What editor do you use? - sosiso4ka - 07-15-2017 As for me the best editor is notepad++ RE: What editor do you use? - Pikami - 08-08-2017 I use notepad++ while doing stuff on my computer, if I'm developing a server app or web stuff I use nano because it's more convenient to edit directly on server than upload code every time I make a change. RE: What editor do you use? - VirtualFrost - 08-08-2017 Using Brackets, mostly do Web Development stuff and it gives you the easy live preview on the side. RE: What editor do you use? - Luxury - 08-08-2017 I used to use Sublime but now I do everything in Atom. Especially since I've got it to push to github. Makes changes to my stuff so much easier. |
