Yes it is true that you can be tracked by your MAC Address, infact MAC Address is used to trace and locate your stolen PC's, Cool eh?but not cool for Hackers as it is a very active hazard. You can easily spoof your MAC Address in Windows and Linux.
For Linux here's a tutorial: http://www.perturb.org/display/549_Spoof...Linux.html
For Windows: http://www.hackcommunity.com/Thread-Mac-...g-Tutorial
Why change MAC, Still confused? Read this article http://www.ciscozine.com/2011/01/12/how-...c-address/
I believe you are at the very least misinformed in this section. Unless you would like to elaborate on how a stolen device can be tracked by its mac address im going to say that this section is plain incorrect. You can trace a mac address on a local network (if the network devices support it), however who in their right mind would steal a laptop and then sit down and use it on the same network. No... thieves steal items and fuck off.
Now that said, even if you were on a local network and doing something bad, it doesnt matter what your mac address is, as the one that is being used will be no different than your original in function/implementation on the network. The only exception is if you are hijacking someone elses mac. add to that, even if your mac address is logged, on a wifi network that would lead someone absolutely nowhere. It wont pinpoint your physical location. And while on a wired network it might lead the netadmin to a specific network port/jack, that information generally isnt available to just any one.
Now i havent really had a chance to read the rest of this article, im simply pointing this out because someone else posted a thread about spoofing mac addresses and referenced this post as a reason.
