Ubuntu Unity is dead. #1
After a very long discussion in a Linux group on FB about the horrors of Unity and how Canonical was killing Ubuntu this article was found and many rejoiced.
I myself don't use Ubuntu but I do use two downstream distros that rely upon it (Linux Mint/Lubuntu) and therefor I never had any dealings with Unity desktop, but if you did please share.
Did you like it or hate it? Are you glad it's dead? Why are you still using Ubuntu?

Only used Ubuntu as a temp setup but let me tell you, I'm glad Unity is dead. Thought it was kind of resource heavy/bulky in general. Wasn't a big fan.

Same.

I used Ubuntu a handful of times, but It wasn't for me. Although not used as a primary OS, BackTrack (In It's days) was brilliant- as least for me.

Who doesn't love a classic? Am I right?

I use Ubuntu mostly as live whenever I am testing the hardwares of a Workstation built from scratch before installing an OS.

Absolutely.

On a different note, I've still got the good old Nintendo 64 stashed away In my closet. On topic, I loved (and still do) BackTrack and was somewhat disappointed when It's development came to an end. With Ubuntu, It didn't appeal to me right from the get-go.

Thinking back on it my order of distros was:

Yellow Dog Linux -> Red Hat -> Fedora -> Ubuntu 9 -> Ubuntu 10 -> fuck unity back to windows -> Elementary OS -> fuck that -> Ubuntu 12 -> why...back to windows -> Arch

I loved Ubuntu and Debian. However Unity killed it off for me, and its why I've stopped using Linux so much. With it being gone, I might be able to make a return.

You guys know Gnome is 50% more heavier than ubuntu unity. So instead of celebrating I would start crying.
Anyways Ubuntu always had its official derivatives, want light weight? check out Lubuntu.
As for me anything debin/ubuntu based is cool

I never really liked unity, but gnome is ok.
I like GNOME3's UI, whereas Unity's was always just meh.
I think Unity should be developed unofficially, but it should not be used as the default DE for Ubuntu.

@BORW3 I'd say they are pretty much identical in terms of resource usage, but I haven't done any actual measurements. You should check out XFCE
