Quote:The Motion Picture Association, whose member studios include Netflix, Disney and Sony, has now revealed that it was directly behind the shutdowns of two major anime piracy sites earlier this year.
In the MPA's response to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative regarding foreign notorious markets, the trade group disclosed that coordinated actions by them and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) were responsible for terminating the operations of both Cineby and AnimeFLV.
According to the filing, dismantling these operations helped the American film and television workforce, which supports 2.01 million domestic jobs, spanning 320,000 production roles and 468,000 distribution positions. TorrenFreak noted that since the filing omitted any mention of court orders or police actions, these measures were likely private enforcement actions conducted directly by the anti-piracy coalition.
Quote:In addition to claiming the scalps, the MPA’s filing also listed other streaming sites that they consider among notorious markets. This also included some major anime piracy sites, as seen below.
- Kisskh: Operating under kisskh.is, kisskh.do and kisskh.co, the platform was designated as a priority target specializing in Asian dramas and anime, drawing more than 70 million monthly visits.
- Aniwaves: The domain aniwaves.ru registered 114.5 million visits from 9.80 million unique visitors in August and was designated as a notorious market.
- Animepahe: Accessible via animepahe.pw and animepahe.ru, the site focuses on English-subtitled anime and drew 54.88 million visits from 5.07 million unique visitors in August.
- Anime-Sama: The French-language anime portal anime-sama.to made it to the list as a notorious market after recording approximately 48 million visits in August.
- Animeunity: Currently operating as animeunity.so, the service was highlighted for frequently shifting addresses to evade blocking measures while drawing peak traffic exceeding 22 million visits.
