Dear valued ZTE customer
We would like to inform you the Axon M is a unique device and is exclusive to AT&T and they have asked us to direct you back to them during your first 12 months of ownership.
Rubbish.
If It's exclusive to AT&T, why Is It available to purchase from ZTE? The latter Is where It was purchased, and It's the very same entity who's responsible for the Item.

They're not referring to 12 months per se.
They've stated:
Quote:during your first 12 months of ownership.
The operative words being "During your first". Meaning anytime between the first minute of purchase, to the last second of the 12 month end date.
Ah :/
I don't know if this phone is SE'able anymore lmao
Of course it is. If you fail, start over and try something different.

Disregard the Item. It's the person(s) on the other end that's relative to SEing. When vulnerabilities have been Identified In both their terms and the representative of whom you're dealing with, you're well on your way to a successful outcome.
What's your status at the moment? Have you responded to this?

At the moment, I'm stuck. Haven't really thought of any way around that so I was hoping to try to SE it off of Bestbuy. Doing that requires me to buy it at full price ($730?) and I'm not even 100% sure if I'll get a refund

Did they ask for S/N, Imei or pictures?.
IMO saying the phone got burnt during charging (due to defective battery) is more solid than saying the sound doesn't work.
Then you can be creative if they ask for pics.
I had partial success with Samsung, but I'm still exploiting methods.
