Installing ubuntu! #1
@chmod, I shall join the penguin army :epic:! Ubuntu is installing on my computer as we speak so it should be done in, well I don't actually know but, yeah, go linux!
(anything I should do after installation?)

Don't be afraid to try different interfaces.
I mean, GNOME's decent and all, but I still would recommend for you to try out Ubuntu with the XFCE interface (Xubuntu) at some point.

EDIT: It might take awhile before you find the right Linux flavour for you. Just a heads up! Biggrin

As @Maxx said have a look through some of the different desktop environments to see if you like one over another (unlike Windows you are not tied to one i.e explorer), rather than install a different distro altogether you can just install it inside Ubuntu.

First things first make sure all of your software is up to date either through apt-get or the software manager and just spend some time having a look around, you will find it a lot different to Windows but don't mistake that for being difficult to use.

Since you are a LOL player you may wish to look into wine as well (a Windows compatibility layer) as AFAIK there is not native application

No problem if you run into any issues just ask.

One more tip have a look around the terminal, the GUI's nice and all but the command line is where Linux shines.

oh my god @chmod the terminal is insane!
and I do really like the default theme (at least, for now)
(also, how long does it usually take to install? It's been a good 20 minutes and it's still on step 3..)

I really can't answer that, it depends on hardware, (if you are updating the system upon installation) how fast your internet connection is and how many there are and many other factors. But as long as the progress bar keeps going I wouldn't worry too much about it.
