I suggest to use the default images of the theme instead the default one of the plugin substituting them.

I am in favour of this suggestion. Hpefully it is doable, as I would find it more appealing.

The images we use on forum display are too big and don't look very good resized with CSS. I went ahead and made something simple instead.

I actually really quite like, specifically for the home page. There's a lot of content on the page, so I think simple might be better.

I misspoke, as the image is too small for the color changer. However, we could go with grey/white, like below.



I'm leaning towards leaving it red, as that's the color of the icons referenced in the OP.
