GPU swap walmart #1
Hey, just asking for any advice about this matter:

Heres the gameplan:

I plan to buy a prebuilt from walmart (any tower will do) and I figured that since the PC is enclosed in the case, I can just swap out the cpu and the gpu and return the PC the same day at the walmart customer service, which I believe will be an instant refund since my past returns required me to put my credit card in the chip reader. I hope its not the case where I go to return it in the store and they take the PC and ship it bck to the warehouse ---> wait a few days and then they refund you.

Any input will be greatly appreciated Biggrin
The forum is going downhill.

I have many SEs I would like to share with other contributors. Unfortunately, that is a very small percentage of the overall community, and getting smaller by the day. I have no incentive to contribute publicly and reward the undeserving. If you feel the same and would like to discuss privately, please reach out.

Make sure you boot the PC 1 time after you swapped the CPU before returning.

1st post after CPU swap will always display : NEW CPU DETECTED, PRESS F1 TO SETUP.

Not from US, had literally the same idea of buying a pre built swapping expensive parts as CPU/GPU and legit returning it or claiming there is a problem with it.
I think it would be a better idea to claim issues with a used pre built than a brand new

Pro tip for you guys:

If you have a lil know-how, flash the GPU and CPU.

There are a few videos on you tube on how to do it

I am 100% certain, that ppl wont check for CUDA cores and more. They will just check the GPU's name

The problem with the CPU is, it should have the same amount of cores!

By doing this, it looks like, the GPU and CPU is still in there.

will returning it in person cause any trouble? WHat if they have cameras and see that I am returning it after it being sent to the warehouse to be checked?

The real only risk is them bringing in somebody from the electronics department to make sure it looks good.
Odds are they don't look, but there is a risk.

So am I flashing vbios to change the name of the cpu/gpu or just doing regedit

OEM parts are the cheapest, worst quality, worst specced, often non-atx standard, garbage. You don't get a box and the resale value is zero.

So instead of just directly SEing the exact GPU you want, you go to all this trouble to get an OEM version of the GPU/CPU?

Why?

I'd try to make sure it's shipped and sold by Walmart. Third party vendors are more careful with returns and I believe in-store refunds to third party vendors have to wait until the return gets back to the vendor.
