I remember I was about 7/8 years old, prior to the pinnacle moment I first laid hands on a PC for the first time, my parents that year had bought me 10 different LEGO/Knex sets in an attempt to keep me busy. I would finish the largest LEGO aircraft carriers to Knex Rollercoasters & Theme parks in just hours. My uncle (RIP) had seen that I breezed through these puzzles and so he had an idea. Being the 90’s computer/electronics hoarder he was, he had about 20 different dismantled systems in his garage ranging from Apple, Gateway, E-Machine, Compaqs, Dells, and enough cables and external peripherals to start a wholesale company.
Now I don’t remember what brand components I used or what the specs on the machine were (I did this at 10, but didn’t actually begin to pursue IT as a hobby/career until 15) but he brought in an old cigarette hotboxed off-white colored E-machine case, a box of screws, 5 large boxes of internal board components, a sticker covered & nicotine scented CRT monitor from Gateway, and a pirated version of Windows 95. It took me a week with his help to build it and when I pressed that power button, heard the fans start spinning faster and faster, the buzzing sound of the CRT Monitor warming up to my first BSOD! I set the RAM chips only half-way in and shorted them out. So after replacing them I booted to the Win95 setup. I began gaming that year (Mainly Hot wheels websites & Runescape) and my gamer tag till I got into high school was Phatgamer99. The rest is history !
