I don't expect, I know I researched.
I wanted 2 mascots for a project I was working on and since illustration is not my specialty I looked for designers.
The cheapest I found was $200 for a character and the guys potfolio wasn't that good.
Moral is that unless you are looking for a flat cartoonish design then prepare to open up your wallet.

I will be able to complete this for $400, and I will be able to make more than 10 characters, and not those "flat cartoonish designs".
If that's the cheapest price you could find, it's on a site like Elance you posted on, where everything is way to overpriced(atleast your are guranteed quality)

@CustomNet, @Red - see what I did there? Is correct. If you're looking for multiple professionally designed mascots, be prepared to spend $100+ a pop. It's not a cheap business. People who know they are good; will charge a pretty penny. I'm sure you'll find someone who is cheaper, but the quality will not be as good.
