Crunch is a wordlist generator where you can specify a standard character set or a character set you specify. crunch can generate all possible combinations and permutations.

Features:
  • crunch generates wordlists in both combination and permutation ways
  • it can breakup output by number of lines or file size
  • now has resume support
  • pattern now supports number and symbols
  • pattern now supports upper and lower case characters separately
  • adds a status report when generating multiple files
  • new -l option for literal support of @,%^
  • new -d option to limit duplicate characters see man file for details
  • now has unicode support

Now try the simple command, example:

Code:

I read a bit on this tool and I love it. Thing is, How do you know where to start? maybe that is my problem....

When using this, you are (I am under the impression however) using this to crack the passsphrase which can be anything. I have been creating wordlists and have over 2 million passwords so far in one dictionary. I seem to, imho, have a nice computer... I get around 1800 keys/sec tested so it goes in about 10-15 minutes... which is FAST as all get out. but I have tried this on over thirty different systems and NOTHING ... so its really like whaaaa? I guess I have to keep practicing.
