Bugging out #1
I see many people on Youtube, and other forums that I browse but am not a member of with these people who claim to be preppers but then they bitch about bugging out coming up with lame excuses.

These people assume that people who have bug-out bags are going to bug-out from natural disasters like storms, tornado's, etc and go to the woods, it is completely false.

Bugging out and people like myself who have bug-out bags use them for more extreme scenarios such as wars, invasions, etc that makes cities, towns, suburbs all unsafe and life threatening with the safest place being the woods or some secret location that is what a bug-out bag is for not for a damn tornado or storm.

Use the movie Red Dawn as an example in this case the 2012 version when North Korea knocked out the power grid and North Korea troops parachuted down into the town INVADING it Jed and Matt's father told them to get to the cabin. That is what bugging out is. And when there cabin was discovered they went further into the woods bugging out to a safer location.

Tell me if such a scenario happened which it is possible what would you do sit pretty with your thumb up your ass and get thrown in a prison camp or even killed, or make it to a safer location such as the woods to survive?.

To me surviving is worth it even if it gets rough, just being able to live and breathe without being held back is worth it.

I'm no prepper myself, but I've heard a lot about the whole bug out scenario, from many different people, and their radically different philosophies.

I know for one thing, that bugging out is, like you said, for very extreme situations. If you live near a coast, a large hurricane could very well make your city unsafe, by way of looters running around the city and no law enforcement around.

I like the mentality of freedom, that is your motivation, of course. My view on bugging out though, is about surviving a large natural disaster, not about a govt. takeover, as increasingly possible as it may seem. Your goal in the situation of a huge earthquake in CA, or a hurricane on the East Coast, is not to be some survivorman and go into the woods alone not to be seen for 16 years, no. Realistically, it's about keeping you and the people around you safe, fed, sheltered, and then when things are able to calm down (72 hours or less hopefully, as most bug out bags are designed to sustain you for that time), you can seek help elsewhere, return to your home, given, it's still standing.

Pretty cool to see someone into this type of stuff, I wasn't sure if that's what I expected when I clicked on this thread!

The name is god awful, for the technique and bag. Like, I can't take anyone serious when they use that term, at all.

STEP bag would be better.
"Short Term Emergency Prep Bag" sounds more professional and serious.

I call mine a survival kit, its designed for long term. People call them bug-out bags, inch bags, survival kits, get home bags, etc.

They are all designed a little differently though.

Makes sense to be prepared. Unfortunately, I'd imagine rations would go bad before a disaster (like in Red Dawn) would happen. You should come up with a guide to prepare a cost-effective bag.

Can you be more specific in what you mean by a guide? all I can do is recommend items that are low cost but high quality.

Do you mean like starting a thread on what can be put in a budget survival kit?

And honestly MRE's last longer then there shelf life, home-made MRE's can last a long time. Canned goods can last a lifetime, they have been proven edible after 100 years.

Best buy does not mean expiration it means that is when the food will be at its best quality after that date the quality, taste and nutritional value degrades but its still edible.

Expiration dates are final period do not go past it.

That's what I mean. As for MREs, I was thinking canned food and stuff.
