Won't it be suspicious if the item was "DNA'd" for 30+ days and then all of the sudden its found and you're trying to return it after the SE failed?
There are countless excuses to use.

For example, your roommate accepted the delivery In your absence, then went away on a business trip and on his return 4-5 weeks later, he Informed you about the event.

Thank you so much for your help. I have filed a police report and received the incident file number. Do I need to wait for the police investigation to conclude or can I just contact amazon with the police incident file number?

I contacted customer support through chat and then they asked for my number and called me directly. I provided them with the police report number and now they put my on hold while they are directly contacting the police department about this issue. I am currently still on hold. Should I just hang up? Is this normal part of their investigation to contact the police directly? I've been on hold for almost 20 minutes.

update: they weren't able to get in touch with the PD as they were put on hold. They asked me to try calling amazon again tomorrow so they can try contact the police department again. Should I just forward them the police report email rather than trying to call? Thanks for the help.

Yes, just email the PR report.

Under the circumstances, It serves the same purpose as a phone call.

Thank you. Do they usually call the PD directly? I thought it was mostly for administrative purposes?

Contacting the police Is part of their administration to assess the claim, though It's not done regularly.

I emailed them the police incident report and they responded with:

"Hello ,
Thank you for contacting us .
I see you are referring to the Order ID: 702-9635336-0664227 , you have send us the police report and the police incident file number .
Please contact us during business hours so that we can help you .
If you have any other queries , please contact us back ."

Do I need both the police report and the police incident file number? So far I only have the incident file number as the police haven't provided me a report yet. I'm guessing I'll have to wait a long time for the report as the PD is very slow.

But as per below, they've stated that you've sent both the PR and IFN:

I think it might just be a typo as I only sent the IFN but no PR.
