I can do missing item in package

How much does It weigh?

or replace the device with an iPhone 5S.

Are you referring to the similar Item method?

The only issue is, if the refund does fail for any reason, how do I return the device without the box?

Stating the obvious, ask them to send It back.

You paid for It, hence It's your box and not theirs.
