I just hope they haven't logged somewhere that someone has contact customer service with this serial number already, and that I don't get the same customer service rep whom might recognise the serial.

If It's logged, It will show up when checked, regardless which rep happens to deal with your claim.

Every claim Is accessible by all reps, and notes are taken by each one In readiness for the next representative who takes over the claim.

So probably best advisable to be persistent with my initial excuse of it caught fire.

Or get a different serial number?
