What's broken? PS3 is pretty easy to fix depending on what the issue is. It's a fun side project to pop it open and try to revive. If it doesn't work, no harm done right. I've fixed a bunch of PS3's back when I was in middle school. I learned because mine broke and I couldn't afford a new one haha. After figuring it out, I actually bought broken ones and fixed them to resell! It gave me the passion to learn about taking apart and putting back together electronics, and eventually becoming a computer technician in college! And it gave me the confidence that if any of my electronics broke (and out of warranty), I can probably fix it myself. The skills you learn fixing things is great!

If you couldn't care about any of that - using it for SE is a way to go too! I would probably only SE a used PS4 or something though. Arguing that a used PS3 was sent instead of a new PS4 is a bit of a stretch. Preferably from a big company like Gamestop and not an individual. But that's just me personally.
Unfortunately, I have to retire from SE.
