Would probably be a little while before we see a significant amount of broken or coreless 5090s no?
By the time the 5090 comes out and we start seeing some cheap broken ones on ebay the account might be in good standing?
Also how likely is it that Amazon would find out about the swap at all?
I'm curious how much weight the core and vram are and if that will be enough to cause some suspicion about the card. Perhaps add an additional accessory in the box to compensate for the discrepancy weight without raising suspicion?
Some will modify their 5090 to a water block, they most likely will sell the Cooler/"body" of the 5090 on ebay
If that is the case, the only thing to worry is, if there is a compatible PCB
With the 4090, everything was nearly the same, as the others / previous generation, just different chips and it fit perfectly.
If you just take a look on google, there are many who got a fake 4090, and while investigating they found out the scammer changed the PCB and thats the magic
Amazon etc do not care about that
Just make sure the S/N is 1:1 and everything is looking legit
I can imagine that Amazon / newegg and so on, will hire some specialists... one day thats for sure
Surprised Newegg of all places would be susceptible to this? Have you tried on NewEgg? Currently in the process of swapping a 4090 on Amazon. If Newegg could also be hit i might try them when the 5090 comes out. Stock for 4090 is non existent now I believe i was able to get one of the final 4090s sold by Amazon.
Thats what ppl have claimed on the internet, especially on reddit and twitter
They dont check it properly during the Christmas time
