I can't imagine they actually install the ssd to a test bench to check the storage.

There've been cases where they actually did that and rebilled the SEer months after the SE had been performed.
It's up to you whether you wanna test your luck or not.

Since it is an expensive item, this is 100% def a possibility. Wrong item method seems to be the best here.
