This Is precisely how It should be done.
As such, If they scan the return, they'll see that It's part of their Inventory and assume that It was Incorrectly sent.
Do you see this method as being a viable option for the SE in hand?. It is probably one of my favourite methods.

It's considered a universal method, whereby It's suited to almost every company and Item.
There's no doubt that It will work with your Item- you just need to be methodical with the preparation and execution of your SE.

I worked at Amazon for a while and they never did weigh the items it just went straight on the truck... I wonder if they will just look at the type of box it was sent in?

That's strange, goods/packages are always weighed prior to dispatch.
That aside, It will be weighed at the carrier's depot- for both a point of reference and cost of freight.

Ye, I guessed the carrier may weight but I never seen Amazon doing it.
To elaborate on the box theory is with amazon boxes you get different boxes like C1, C2, C3 B3... etc etc. Say they sent the GPU In a C3 maybe I should look for another item that will also come in a C3 box so the Box type and Weight match for the records? It may be overthinking it but I suppose the more details you pinpoint he better haha.

Now I'm following with the box type- I work In a similar role, whereby goods have their dedicated box descriptions.
What you're suggesting, will certainly Increase the likelihood of Amazon believing that they did dispatch the Incorrect Item. Alternatively, It can be any other Item that's located In the same section of the warehouse.
