Boxing is when you send a empty package so you can claim it was stolen.

Dry ice is for when they weigh the contents during the postage process. So when I send let's say a laptop back to a company I'd go to a post office so they weight it. But I fill it with dry ice so it weights like a laptop is inside. The ice then evaporates so no no evidence. And when they company opens it they see it's empty they go check the postal process and see that it's lost considerble amout of weight indicating something was taken out after I posted it.

Do you know whether there's another angle I can take.

Please provide the exact turn of events, from the moment you executed your SE, to their response(s) of where It stands today.

My method was very easy. I simply found a serial number on ebay, and started a chat with there online chat service. I told the rep that I plugged the headphones in when I first got them around dinner time, and when I woke up the next day it had leaked battery acid.  The representative asked for the serial number, but no other proof of purchase. He simply asked to return the item and a new one would be shipped.

So, it was as simple as saying in the chat "I only know this because I used to work for Microsoft customer service, but it's actually illegal to ship faulty batteries, as its a safety hazard"

The rep was fully understanding and escalated it to his supervisor, who then actually called me (which I was a little nervous for because I had used there online chat to make it easier) and the supervisor thanked me for bringing the issue of shipping batteries to there attention, and arranged a new item to be sent to me.

This was just about an hour ago and I already have an email saying I'll receive a tracking number soon.

Just wanted to add before anyone calls me out, I thought of this method because when I was browsing the forums last night (I was on like page 50 so i cant find the original post) someone mentioned it was easy to get free batteries from amazon because amazon wont make you ship back faulty batteries if you say they are faulty. For safety reasons. I figured that this method would work on anything with a battery inside it, and so it was my first attempt, and a successful one at that. Ive been on these forums all morning and noticed there were only a few popular methods that people were suggesting and I didn't see anyone suggest this but it worked.

Where did you say that you bought the item from and how did you avoid being told to bring up warranty claims with them?

I orginally used their whats app support service to trouble shoot the headphones. I used the same method saying I woke up after chargeing it and the battery had leaked.

I then called them cause it had taken a full day to just send a few messages. The phone conversation concluded with them decideing my claim warranted a replacement. They instructed me that I had to send all the accessories and headset.

I told them that in the UK that we can't send damaged batteries via the mail which he responded that UPS provided the service to post it and I must send it back to them before they send a replacement.

I'm leaning towards calling again and saying that I contacted ups and the representative said that you can't post damaged batteries that have leaked. If that doesn't work boxxing them. The weight I believe doesn't demand dry ice.

Any alternatives you can think of.

Appreciate the help cheers

Quick edit

Possibley could say the battery is expanding and I don't feel safe sending it and if they ask just send corrupt photos

Where did you claim to have bought it from? Thinking of giving this a go myself, but don't know how to get around the fact that if it was bought from a store it should be returned there.

I tried this over the past few days with two different brands and both of them failed. Tried something very similar to what you did but at the end each company wanted me to ship the product back in order to be sent a replacement.
