I stumbled upon an Amazon receipt generator last night at about 4am, which led me to this forum, so when I woke up this morning (with no prior SE experience) I figured I'd give it a shot on some new headphones because my old Bose were starting to sh*t the bed.
My method was very easy. I simply found a serial number on ebay, and started a chat with there online chat service. I told the rep that I plugged the headphones in when I first got them around dinner time, and when I woke up the next day it had leaked battery acid. The representative asked for the serial number, but no other proof of purchase. He simply asked to return the item and a new one would be shipped.
So, it was as simple as saying in the chat "I only know this because I used to work for Microsoft customer service, but it's actually illegal to ship faulty batteries, as its a safety hazard"
The rep was fully understanding and escalated it to his supervisor, who then actually called me (which I was a little nervous for because I had used there online chat to make it easier) and the supervisor thanked me for bringing the issue of shipping batteries to there attention, and arranged a new item to be sent to me.
This was just about an hour ago and I already have an email saying I'll receive a tracking number soon.
Just wanted to add before anyone calls me out, I thought of this method because when I was browsing the forums last night (I was on like page 50 so i cant find the original post) someone mentioned it was easy to get free batteries from amazon because amazon wont make you ship back faulty batteries if you say they are faulty. For safety reasons. I figured that this method would work on anything with a battery inside it, and so it was my first attempt, and a successful one at that. Ive been on these forums all morning and noticed there were only a few popular methods that people were suggesting and I didn't see anyone suggest this but it worked.
Happy SE'ing
