RE: Estimated item value limit on mature account #11
What Mothered said I have seen pasted many times on this board but I don’t think it can be boiled down to very useful advice. “If the item is within reason” is vague and doesn’t mean very much. Within reason of what? What makes an item “within reason” and another not?

“Prepare, formulate and execute...”. Aside from reporting that the item didn’t arrive and going through the steps with the rep and hoping for the best, there’s not a lot of formulation required for an Amazon refund in this particular type of scenario. I can SE the rep all I like but I think account history will be the factor with the most weight on the outcome, followed by company policy.

No offence or anything, it’s just that I like to avoid fluff talk and stick to straight forward information and I see that line pasted all over this forum as advice and to me it comes across as a lot of words without much substance. So for people to quote it and say it’s great advice seems odd. Again, no offence to the originator of the line.

There are no examples that I can find on this forum of $2000 or $3000 successes. My goal is a sub $1000 item and I think even that is unlikely to succeed without a police report, despite the good account history. The majority here go after $100-500 items and many hit roadblocks.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate people’s time.

Oh boy, from having a rare account like that, you could get away with some things. Good luck Smile

I have never done SE on this account but have returned maybe 15 items over those years for legitimate reasons (faulty items, decided I didn't like the items etc.). I have never reported an order as lost. What do you think the approximate upper limit would be for an attempt at refunding a high value electronic item using the 'Did not arrive' method? They never ask for signature on delivery. This will be a one time deal so I want to make it worthwhile. Is $800 too high? Thanks.

I have a 4 year old amazon account with a few hundred orders on and I refund items worth £200ish every few weeks, placing legitimate orders in-between and returning orders for legitimate reasons too. If I was you, I would order the $800 item and if you are not refunded immediately, contact them an hour later saying the item turned up. If they started any sort of investigation, this would most likely still be carried out and you will get an email the next day with the outcome. If they do refund the item, you know that $800 is doable.

Also, if you do have to contact them saying you found it and you still get the refund, contact them and explain it. They'll thank you for your honesty and this puts you in their good books.

This is based off previous experience so hopefully this info is useful to you.

Make it sound believable. Stick to your plan and be persistent, Amazon wouldn't want to loose a customers. Sound slightly annoyed but not snobbish. Add a sense of urgency too.

I know I don't have a lot of reputation in here but just wanted to chime in, and don't really care if you believe me or not. Smile

A couple of years back i used an amazon refund service on a darknet market, since I wasn't really comfortable doing it myself, and I used a well aged account that had been used, but not to the extent yours have. A lot less purchases, maybe max $500 over a couple of years, and managed to get a doubledip (replacement + refund) on a $2000 item from amazon.co.uk. It did trigger the amazon investigation thing, but it did go through in the end. Don't know if things got harder since, this was around 3 years ago.

edit: typo

Take this into consideration. Amazon will not want to lose its customers.
Also, it is a lot harder than it was 3 years ago.
Lots of patches have arrived

Figured that might be the case..

I'm guessing theres no real limit if you're not afraid to work with police reports..?

Exactly. At the end of the day in most cases it's your word against another and the police do not really make a big fuss over these things as parcels go missing all the time and they have bigger problems to deal with.
