Potential DNA issue #1
OK so I'm looking for some advice/reassurance.

I have attempted to DNA a macbook pro from a well known electronics shop in the UK. The courier they used was dpd. The package was delivered and left on my front doorstep like I had hoped, perfect DNA material right? Well apparently I had downloaded the dpd app a long time ago and had set a "safe place" to "rear porch". When I contacted the company I purchased from they informed me of the instructions to be "left at rear porch", apparently whatever settings you have on the app become default for every delivery you then receive. So where do I stand with this one? They've opened an investigation and I was told I will be contacted in 7-14 days. Am I screwed because of the safe place setting or do I still have a leg to stand on because I didn't specifically designate a safe place for this individual order and also it wasn't even left in the safe place I had supposedly requested. This can be proved through photographic evidence when compared to the delivery photo dpd has.

All input is appreciated, thanks.

^ That makes you responsible for loss of goods.

As per your comment below, the app defaulted the safe place.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I understand the issue with having a "safe place" instruction. But surely the responsibility of package when left only lies with me if the item was actually left in the specified "safe place"? Not just wherever the driver feels like?

It was left on my front doorstep, on a busy road where hundreds of school/college students walk past every day. I would never agree to leave an almost £3000 laptop there in the open for anyone to take. Surely I have some sort of case right? I wasn't even aware of the courier they would use, as they state on their website that they use multiple. I should also mention for reference that I don't even and didn't even have the app installed on my phone anymore or at the time. How was I supposed to know of the settings it would default to. What do you think my next course of action should be? Wait for the investigation to commence and argue my case? Miraculously find the laptop and return in store to arouse less suspicion? Attempt to use the sealed box method? Although I had planned to already to do that for a double dip. My final option would be to wait for the investigation to conclude and if things weren't found in my favour, perform a charge back as I paid by cc. Again not sure where I would stand with that one though.

Absolutely, that's why I asked where the driver left It.

If the package was dumped at a place other than the specified location, the carrier Is liable - as It was done via his own volition.

The fact that the driver did not comply with your request, Is enough to shift the responsibility on him/her, as well as justify your claim for nonreceipt of goods.

Wait for the Investigation to complete and If need be, mention the above.

I also want to add for the benefit of those reading this I have pre-emptively filed a police report - to which I have already received a reply of non pursuit as there is not enough evidence to go on (as I thought). I did this because I feel it will strengthen my case when it comes to arguing with the claims department.

Just an update for anyone interested: 8 days after I first reported the issue, I have just received a request to fill out and return a "denial of receipt" form. So I will go ahead and do that.

It's not a legally binding document, so there's no cause for concern.

It's also a good sign, as they have no evidence to decline your claim at this stage.

Well something is definitely going on. Yesterday I had 6 missed calls from a random number. After a bit of searching, turns out it's the local dpd office. Also this morning I was woken up at 7:30am by the delivery driver banging on my door. I only just got out of bed and looked out the window as he was driving off. Then I get another 2 missed calls from a different mobile number, I can only assume that this is now the driver harassing me and not just head office.

I've heard about this happening but it's never happened to me before. I could understand if the driver physically handed me the package but he dumped it on the doorstep, what does he think talking to me is going to achieve? The guy didn't do his job properly and any sympathy I might have had for him has now completely gone out the window.
