Provided they're still under warranty, use the serial number method by claiming Its respective Item Is defective.
There's a number of ways to use the method, but It's way beyond the scope of this post to document the lot. Generally speaking, when you contact the company, the rep will (most likely) go through a few troubleshooting steps to try and determine why It's defective, which you'll obviously say It's still not functioning. After he's satisfied of the faulty Item, a refund/replacement will be authorized but only after the company receives your (seemingly) defective product. Evidently, you have no Intention to return something you don't have to begin with, hence you can box them.
Alternatively, If the Item Is within their refund/replacement policy (due to a change of mind or otherwise as stated In their terms), you can ask for either of the two and once again, use the box method.
Rather than returning the Item, some companies such as Logitech or SteelSeries, may request a "POD" (Proof Of Destruction), which Involves providing photographic evidence that the Item has In fact been destroyed, of which the Image/photo must be manipulated with precision to fulfill their request accordingly. But that's a different story altogether.
