Fansubs - Jiggly - 07-03-2016 What do you think of fansubs? Have they helped or hindered anime? I have often found that if I'm watching a show not long after it's aired and there's multiple people making fansubs, some will do episodes faster than others so I would chop and chance which fansub I'm seeing. This usually means that there are discrepancies in translation. Usually the gist of the conversation is the same, but sometimes it changes the meaning to really important dialogue where they may only say a couple of words. Do you think this is bad for anime where people aren't going to have a consistent experience unless they speak Japanese or do you think it doesn't really matter? Some classic examples: ![]()
RE: Fansubs - Hououin Kyouma - 07-03-2016 Fansubs are often times as good, or better, than the official product. They're made by people who have a guaranteed genuine interest in the show, rather than people who're just trying to get a paycheck and might not actually care about the show. That being said, actual fansubbing is almost dead. Most groups just edit Crunchyroll's subs. That being said, while I do try to support the anime/manga industry where I can, I can't imagine watching shows like JoJo without fansubs, because the official subs have to change the references to famous bands and whatnot so they don't get sued. I suppose they do have to be careful with what they release. I do partially think that if I stayed with one fansub consistently, I doubt it would ruin my viewing experience. When I am next living somewhere I won't have to move out of in a year, I'll probably start buying some dvds etc which may mean I'll notice translation differences then. I also prefer fansubs over the official. |
