Regarding Wrong Item Received - KingC33 - 12-01-2020

I have personally always shopped around on Amazon to find item weights, and then gone and bought it from somewhere else like eBay.
My reasoning for this, is that if you instead opt to buy the item you plan to send back from Amazon but on a different account - Then does this not just link the two accounts when they scan the return?
It was always my assumption that the items barcodes are scanned and then assigned to your accounts order, therefore sending something you have bought from the same company would increase the chances of a failed claim?

Funnily enough I just tried to do this method and amazon didn't even want my return. I had to open up chat to tell them my story and they just refunded me and asked me to keep/dispose of the wrong item sent? I'm massively confused what went wrong and I was planning on doing another big SE but I'm unsure if I should hold out now.

The barcodes on items are there to verify that the item is what it is.
Lets say you go in a food store.
Every cola can has a barcode that identifies it as a cola can.
You can buy it, have your friend return it, and they won't know that you purchased it.
If you're really unsure, legitimately order 2 of the same items on amazon, one from each account, cheaply valued and have a look at the barcodes. They will be identical.

The objective of purchasing from the same company, Is for the Item to be Identified as theirs. In terms of the orders on different accounts, If they decide to cross-check the details (many companies don't) It seemingly comes down to a mismatch administration error on their end. It's a similar principle to how a fake POP works- they obviously cannot locate It In their accounts/Invoice department, but It's assumably their administration error.

Using the "wrong item received" when they ask to send back the item with witch package you send the (apparently) wrong item back? With the package of the expensive one or the cheap one?
