Paypal with custom built PC - Filament - 06-08-2020

I noticed many refunding services advertise sites such as CyberPowerPC, OriginPC, iBuyPower, etc. that sell custom built computers, however they all require payment with Paypal.

1.) Why do you think paypal is required? Is the refund just more difficult going through the company itself?

2.) I don't understand how they use Paypal...

- Paypal states in their user agreement that custom-made items are not eligible for their purchase protection program. The invoice makes it pretty obvious that the computer is custom-built.
Quote:Ineligible items and transactions under PayPal’s Purchase Protection program
Payments for the following are not eligible for reimbursement under PayPal Purchase Protection:
...
Significantly Not as Described claims for wholly or partly custom-made items.
...

- They all give tracking numbers and proof of shipment, so they cannot use Paypal's Item Not Received Claim
Quote:Item Not Received claims
Your claim will not qualify for a refund under PayPal’s Purchase Protection program for an Item Not Received claim, if:

You collect the item in person, or arrange for it to be collected on your behalf, including if you use PayPal in a seller’s physical store, or
The seller has provided proof of shipment or proof of delivery.
If the seller presents evidence that they delivered the goods to your address, PayPal may find in favor of the seller for an Item Not Received claim even if you claim you did not receive the goods.

I would imagine they use FTID since all the companies have FOB shipping at their warehouse so they cannot use DNA, and a PC is too heavy to use empty box. (CyberPowerPC actually even states "Shipment of all Product(s) shall be FOB point of origin as determined by Company. All risk of loss shall pass to Buyer upon tender to common carrier, Buyer or Buyer's agent or employee at Company's warehouse or other point so designated by Company. " so liability can be handed off in the employee's hands lol)

With relevance to Paypal, perhaps they're charging back? I'd be wary.

The only thing I can think of is pretending to PayPal that it Isn't a custom item and hoping only a brief description of the product shows on the invoice. Sometimes not the exact items name and description shows up on PayPal if you know what I mean. Their method simply has to be SNAD.

Their terms are broad- without naming specifics.

The question Is, what does PayPal deem a "custom-made Item?".

I feel like this is a very beginner question - but what's the drawback of charging back after something like FTID fails? You can claim to PP/CC that you sent the item back so I think they would support your side in a dispute.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. Not telling them it was custom made or anything and hoping they would just gloss over the fact. The invoice clearly states a base price with add-ons, with specific names of each piece.

Considering how many services offer custom built PC stores, this is what I'm thinking as well. I'm wondering if I should modify the invoice to make it appear more as an all-in-one (maybe just removing the prices of each individual component) or if maybe they wouldn't notice or care. Definitely not going to mention anything about it being custom built though for sure. I found a random thread on Paypal answered by one of their forum moderators (Not sure if he's actually qualified) that it isn't accepted with a generic excuse that custom-made items aren't available.

Awesome! I appreciate any insight you can give! Biggrin
I've never actually really looked into terms and conditions until recently, so I'm sure there are lots of details I don't fully understand.

You're always welcome.

I have a 10 hour shift ahead of me, so I'll check out their terms later tonight.

Oof. Good luck. If you're too tired, there's no rush! Personal health is most important!
I'm so grateful I can work from home and choose my own hours. It lets me be active on here a lot more. Smile

I wish I could do the same, however physically handling consignments cannot be done from home.
