Back to the main subject, I'd say go for it. The box being thrown over a gate doesn't mean somebody couldn't have well pulled it through the bars and gone away with it.
I waited a day thinking I'd go with DNA, but I spotted the following on the Ray-Ban website:

This is a little bit ambiguous, since they might still be the ones dealing with the courier, but I decided to err on the side of caution and send a message about my EB (or empty leather case) on Friday.
Saturday, silence.
Sunday, a favourable-looking response with a Chinese header and a +8 timezone. Singapore, maybe.

You have no idea about how that could've happened: the only thing you know is those sunglasses were meant to be a gift, and now you won't be able to do that.
Thus there's no point in a replacement, the only valid solution being a full refund.
