That would, of course, be another solution
One thing, though: Why would you want to use a "general" Linux distribution for the given purpose? That way, you would have to get/install all the required tools manually. Thus, I'd rather recommend downloading Kali Linux and "install" it to the thumb-drive. Boots directly into Gnome (for those not accustomed or too comfortable with the Linux shell environments) and has all the tools (and kernel modules) you need to attack a WiFi (plus: a lot more "InfoSec-related tools")
