You're right, but I feel some drivers are told if an items are pretty high value. I know in my experience, the more expensive items I order, the driver will usually call me prior to delivery.

Exactly. The driver knew. And that is perhaps my main issue here. It's definitely him because of the similarities between the two tracking numbers.

The only time this would happen is if it's a store offering home delivery and one of their workers is delivering it or pick up for delivery services, so they would know. I have worked for delivery companies, even when a package needs a signature you don't know what is inside.

This particular device, aside from its rarity and high price, is also available in very limited stock on Amazon - though it's uncertain if that has any relevance to the current situation. Regardless, the seller has accepted the reality of the situation. My diligent investigation skills have definitely paid off, but for now, I am simply going to let him be.

Crazy indeed. He may not have known what the exact item was but he definitely knew it was expensive. Ive had a call from drivers a few times asking where they should leave my item because it is "high value".
You could very easily buy it on eBay and then message him like 2 days later after it comes saying you received a message from Amazon about a stolen parcel and they are asking you file a police report etc. Let him know the serial numbers match and make it seem as if you are asking what you should do and go from there.
