Some companies sometimes process the refund as soon as they receive the package back without even opening it but most do open it and check. Dry ice is honestly the best method imo because it removes all element of suspicion from you, then they do an investigation which is guaranteed to turn up empty because dry ice evaporates without any trace it literally just vanishes. You can’t go wrong with dry ice I guarantee you 100% it will work with no comebacks for any priced item.

Edit:

Just make sure you have the post office weigh the parcel and stick the weight on the box don’t just print out the shipping label and put it on a box. If you have the post office weigh it themselves it will definitely work.
Ok, perfect. I recently made a purchase of some dry ice so I'll definitely use it and keep you updated. It's not arrived yet but will be in small pellets. I am trying to think how I will manage to put 240 grams worth of dry ice in a small iPhone box though. Do you think it's possible?

The box just has to be large enough to be able to fit the iPhone box in. Maybe put some “padding” in a larger box and it’ll be good. Packing peanuts for example or crushed up paper etc.

Don’t put the ice in phone box put it in a box which “has the iPhone box inside” - quotes to signify it doesn’t actually have the iPhone box inside 😂
Ok, that helps. The phone was actually delivered in one of those plastic bags reinforced with bubble wrap. When I opened it I made a pretty significant tear down one side. So I'm assuming that I probably shouldn't use this again. I have some small boxes luckily that I will be able to use. Do you think it will matter if I use new packaging? The courier is DPD and I can either get the parcel collected or leave it with a local parcel shop who will take care of it for me.

Moreover, what about the actual iPhone packaging itself? I've meticulously opened it, taken only the phone out, and replaced the seals with identical ones which I purchased from Ali Express. However, from what you've explained to me it seems more logical to make the iPhone box appear to have been tampered with during transit by leaving the seals broken. What do you think?

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure the dry ice method means you don't send the iPhone box back. You simply get the shipping box you would return the item in, pack that with dry ice, the correct weight to match the phone, then pad it and tape it up. Then when it is weighed, it feels/weighs like the phone and phone box are in there but it is only dry ice. So you dont have to fiddle with the iPhone box from what I understand.

Okay maybe I didn’t explain it well enough.

Keep the iPhone and the iPhone box. Take an empty cardboard box that’s bigger than the iPhone box. Put the dry ice into the cardboard box, take it to dpd and make sure dpd weigh the box and stick the weight on the side of the box.

You may want to do something about the cold from the dry ice though it’s very cold and you can potentially feel it through the box.

The boxing method.
