Yeah that's what I was thinking. I don't plan on spending more than $200 in total. SSDs are somewhat cheaper than they used to be, and I never needed that much storage to begin with.

If you're going for an SSD, I'd take a look at M.2 ones if you have the slot on your MB.
These two are great picks, both on sale on newegg right now and the price is hard to beat. 1tb of SSD storage is a lot and the read/write speeds of M.2 are unmatched.

They're both a little over a hundred, which leaves enough in the $200 budget for a PSU upgrade as well, and believe me, you want that, I lost a motherboard and 32 gigs of ram to a shitty power supply.

Unfortunately I don't have a motherboard that supports M.2 drives yet. I still have my FX-8320. It's not exactly irrelevant yet. And upgrading that was a pain because I had to deal with Windows. Since your license is stored on your motherboard, it took me an entire day with Windows support to get my original copy back. As for my PSU, trust EVGA the most. I hear great things about their power supplies. Of course, there are the odd few people who say there computer got fried on first boot. But they probably didn't even install it correctly. I'll go with something at least 500 watts, and bronze power efficiency.

EVGA is great, especially their lower wattage models as almost all of them have some sort of efficiency rating. If you're willing to go in the $80+ range for a PSU though, I have a Corsair RM750x which has been nothing but wonderful to me, have two rx 480's in CrossFire, an AIO water cooler, and like 5 drives and it keeps everything running smooth.,

What caused you too upgrade your computer? It's a very nice build. Can't compare prices very well because pcpartpicker can't identify all of the prices. I might upgrade a few things on my PC soon. I'm a little worried about my HDD and PSU. They're both quite old. I don't want my parts getting fried, or my data lost.

I honestly bought the motherboard over a year ago for a screaming deal. I pieced this build together whenever parts were on sale or I had some extra cash. I probably could have just upgraded my video card and called it complete. I am thinking of reusing my quad core cpu in a hackintosh in the future.

Gold rated power supplys are getting less and less expensive now thankfully. I have found seasonic and thermaltake PSUs to work well. Solid state storage is such an upgrade! I got a 500gb Intel branded ssd for 60-70$ new online during black friday.

In terms of the HDD, upgrade to an SSD.

Believe me, you will notice a significant difference with read/write operations, and shutdown & boot times. Around 18 months ago, I spent over 15k upgrading my systems and the gain In performance Is second to none.

You'll be extremely happy with the SSD's performance.

I have both external SSDs and boot drives on my laptops and In terms of the latter, a cold boot literally takes around 10 seconds to "fully boot" Into the Windows environment- processes, services, background applications etc, all up and running and ready to go.

If the MOBO can accommodate It, I strongly suggest opting for 32 GB of Ram. All my systems are running that, with the exception of one and I'm continually flushing It's memory due to running low. I've just done that on the PC I'm typing this post, and will run out pretty soon.

Agree. Whether to upgrade, does depend on one's overall usability.

When running simultaneous VMs, particularly "Hyper-V" that's native to selected editions and versions of the Windows platform, the availability of Ram Is crucial. I've ran three VMs at the same time using Hyper-V, and they consumed around 8 GB of Ram. Along with my other active tasks, 16 GB did not suffice. I had to periodically terminate & resume sessions- just to release/flush my system's memory.

On my main system running 32 GB, at the time of this post, I have one VM active and 3 browsers with around 40 tabs opened In total. It's nice to see 21 GB of available Ram.
