RE: Which products easy to scam with SN? #11
I'm gonna borrow the thread for a question...
Let's say I want to SE Phillips via SN method. Does it matter where the item with the SN was purchased? Like if I get a US serial and then send them replacement address in Europe? Or a serial from a different European country than I want it delivered?

Thank you!

Not 100% certain, but I highly doubt it. Just tell them you bought it on vacation.

This may lead to quite a number of replies, so I kindly suggest to create a thread.

You use the service tag to get the product info and start the claim. When you're talking to the rep, they'll ask for serial number and date of purchase. I didn't bother registering it/ creating an account.
My particular codes were in the format:
Service: #X#XXX#
Serial: XX-#XXXX#-#####-##X-##XX-X##
where X is a letter and # is a number

legend, thanks!! gonna work on sourcing a serial now, but  i think im going to try get the S3220DGF .

Good luck, all the best Smile
Create a thread with your progress, I'm interested if it'll be just as easy for you.

Ha, funny you say that.
It was just a few minutes/hours from getting delivered (it was in the neighboring city for a few hours, so I would assume it was pretty close) before I noticed that the tracking got updated to return back to sender. Called them and they said something wasn't matching up. I probably used a bad purchase date if I had to guess, as that's really the only piece of information that could be incorrect. I said 10 days before the start of the warranty as written on the product page after searching the service tag. Maybe day of would have been better?
They asked for proof of purchase and a picture of a piece of paper with some details next to the service tag/serial number.
I've provided both and the rep escalated my case. We'll see how it goes.

Did they ask the same of you?

Currently on live chat with them on WhatsApp. I said it caught fire and they want pictures so I need to figure out a way to sort that. Not asked me for proof of purchase yet, but I have a screenshot of the original proof of purchase and date etc, so I inspect element on Amazon to make everything match up with the real guys proof of purchase, including dates, so hopefully that won't be an issue for me.

Just trying to find an image online of a monitor that caught fire to be adequate for this scenario...

What reason did you use for claiming warranty, if you don't mind me asking?

lmao. That's a very intense reason. Most monitors don't catch on fire.
Just tell them you disposed of it, if it doesn't contradict anything you've said so far. If that fails the SE, then change your details and try again with a different excuse.

I just told them it doesn't turn on. Simple.

If you can, I'd avoid Amazon receipts. I've been finding some companies cross-check the order number. I've had better success with Best Buy personally. Why not just send the proof of purchase you received though? That's actually legit lol

I just drafted up a quick Amazon receipt last night as I was waiting on the auction site user replying to me with where he purchased it from.

Which turns out to be dell themselves.

He sent me a photo of the invoice but it has his customer number etc partly missing. So I'm just concerned that because it's from Dell they might ask me a whole bunch of other information about the person who bought it, which I obviously don't have, and my have to dox said person, and might not have much success in that endeavour.

I have a suitable photo of a burned cable, but struggling to find one of a monitor. I've put Dell customer service on hold with the excuse that I left the monitor outside as It was clearly very unsafe, and I'm currently in work so I will send pictures when I get home, if the bin men have not taken the monitor yet.

Perhaps I should cancel this endeavour right here and now, wait a few weeks, and go with the "it won't turn on excuse". A few weeks incase I get the same customer service rep and somehow they match the service number with the "it caught in fire" accusation....

DELL is one of those companies you can't really SE that much anymore because they've been raped so much with their laptops.

Sadly a lot of companies get really serious when you use the "on fire" excuse and ask for proof of emergency services, pics and other random shit because of safety law suits. Better to just say it didn't turn on. No worries, though -- can always retry.

Noted. I just hope they haven't logged somewhere that someone has contact customer service with this serial number already, and that I don't get the same customer service rep whom might recognise the serial.
