You said that you need linux for presentation work. personally i use Ubuntu ultimate edition 3.5 which comes with lots of pre-install applications.
and if you need linux for penetration testing then go for Backtrack. If you want to learn linux then my suggestion is fedora.

I prefer BackTrack 5 R3.
I also use Ubuntu, but for work I choose BackTrack

I use Linux Mint 14 as my main OS. The reason is that for daily usage I don't feel like going all crazy on configuration stuff and things crashing etc.. For penetration testing I'm using my own custom rolled Linux based on Sabayon SpinBase with Awesome WM Smile

I just switched from my customary Kubuntu LTS base back to PinguyOS 12.04 LTS base using Gnome3 as the primary desktop environment along with Enlightenment 17 as a secondary desktop.
It integrates quite well with the GDM and Gnome3 itself.

P.S.-Along with 4,000 plus packages installed from I believe 631 available Personal Package Archives and Repositories at last count.
113 hours total in building the packages from above, and I'm more than satisfied with the outcome thus far.
