What makes a document legally binding? #1
Is a document that states something like

„I herby certify that I did not recieve order x and that I have asked my housemates and neighbors if they had found it“
+ a signature

automatically legally binding? What distinguishes an affidavit and such a document?
What makes a document legally binding in the first place?

Thanks in Advance.

Legislation has passed It as a legally binding document the moment you put pen to paper.

Other documents must be signed In front of a Justice of the Peace to make It legally binding.

If I understood correctly, every signed document that "verifies that everything you've said Is true and correct" is technically legally binding. Even if it is an internal company document.
The only way it could be not binding is if the company makes there error of stating "to the best of my knowledge". Is that correct?
Mine has the company logo and just states "DECLARATION".

I'm debating if I should sign it at this point, as the SE is not high-value and I could technically afford it and use the DNA for a higher value item in the future

No.

As said, the document must be passed by legislation deeming It legally binding and/or signed In the presence of an authorized witness. An Internal company document that's purely generated by the company, Is not legally binding - they've simply documented everything themselves, so It's fine to go ahead and sign It.

The wording (to what you've described), doesn't define whether or not It's a legal document, the law does.

Alright. In their request, the company asked to "sign this legally binding document". It includes all the information about the properties of the case.

From what you said, their take on what is legally binding is false. Do you think they are "lying" or do you think it's also plausible that these rules differ from state to state?

Anyone can generate a document containing the words "sign this legally binding document", but It doesn't mean It's true and correct.

The document per se Is either legally binding by law, or It Isn't. If It's signed In the presence of an authorized witness such as a Justice of the Peace, It will be legally binding thereafter.

Of which follows that this document is not legally binding.
I will go ahead and sign it.
