Virtual Machines #1
I wanted to ask people who use virtual machines for any reason. What pc specs do you have and does the virtual machine run smoothly?

For example I want to run a windows 10 system using kvm and was wondering if anyone has done it before and gotten decent performance? or using a program like vmware/VirtualBox?

I'm getting a new laptop with the following specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 4600H
GPU: RX 5500m
RAM: 8gb(3200MHz) (Will be upgrading to 16gb as soon as I can)

I use VMware and it doesn't tend to require much performance-wise. Unless you're trying to run applications that are requirement-heavy, I'd imagine you'll have no problems running a couple of Windows VMs.

I have alot of ram, 32GB, but I ran VMs on my pc fine. I don't do that anymore tho, I have as server with ESXi to do that these days.

If you're planning to run simultaneous VMs along with multitasking, 8 GB of Ram will not suffice.

I suggest opting for 16 GB.

Ryzen 7 2700x with 32gb of Ram. I use VMWare workstation for anything I need quickly or small single-use systems, like running really old applications or things I don't trust, but usually only one or two of them at a time, I don't leave all my random VMs running if they aren't in use. No performance issues here.

Good decision with 32 GB of Ram, particularly when running simultaneous VMs.

Hyper-V chews memory and along with multi-tasking resource hungry applications, It can easily use the majority of available Ram.

Absolutely, my 24/7 VMs are ran on a dedicated host for this reason. Thankfully DDR3 ECC is dirt cheap.

Yes, the cost of Ram has significantly decreased and Is very much affordable nowadays.

My laptop Is running 32 GB, with only two slots In use. Essentially, I can up It to 64 GB - which I plan on doing In the near future.

I run both Virtual Box and VMWare. I run Kali LInux, Parrot, and Linux Mint Cinnamon primarily when working in my VM's.

I had 8gb of ram for quite a while and it got the job done, but some tasks took forever. I had to be careful about how many things I was running between my VM and host OS. Recently upgraded to 16gb and now my VM's run quite smooth. Looking to upgrade soon to 32 for even better performance.

AS many users above said I would also recommend VMware.

Just make sure you have enough RAM for whatever you want to run on your VM.
