Unnecessary Microsoft Windows updates #1
I was lurking around then came across this. This would perhaps be a good reference to remove unessary updates on Windows. Be sure to read carefully and research before proceeding. Have a backup as well.

Enjoy.

Updates are important. As you know Windows 10 will be last version, no more new windows will come. Every 6 months a big update will be available. Theese updates necessary for run new programs effectively

Personally, I install the Windows updates I see fit manually. I'm not a huge fan with the automatic updates. As updates are important, this reference are for those who have no interest for these updates or curious to know what may not be needed for them. Thank you for your input.

I can't handle Windows updates. I'm not allowing a remote server go through my systems and Install (what they "claim") to be Important packages.

I've never performed any In the 15+ years of dedicated computing. There's no feature to disable It In Windows 10, so I've simply disabled the Windows Update Service.

The main issue with Windows updates is your computer needs to be rebooted for most of them. On the other hand, in Arch Linux, updates occur in the background without bugging you, and you usually don't need to reboot.

Exactly, that is one of the most important linux feature. And despite Windows, Linux can be run for long without freeze, crash unyil you stopped. Because of that Linux distros mostly used as server and they are no lisence cost.

But I'm a Windows fan, linux is cancer Smile

Surprised no one brought up the forced Windows 10 upgrades done back in 2015-2016... I felt proud back then to be on XP and Vista SP2 Smile

I wish I had your dedication. I realise certain updates I need to use some software, and I'd need to be better on top of what I need to do to maintain my stuff.. But I have been very tempted to disable updates forever.

Recently Oni installed a new OS on my phone which was pretty bare bones. It reminded me of how much useless crap gets installed when you allow companies to do their thing with your devices. My phone is now a breath of fresh air compared to the clutter it used to have (then I broke the OS xD).

You're absolutely correct that the functionality of certain software do require a given update(s) to be Installed. I Install what I need without the need for Microsoft touching my systems. It can be a pain, but I'm used to It now.

All I'm Interested In Is performing my tasks, and not viewing (and waiting) for the good old message of "Configuring Windows updates 20% complete..., do not turn off your computer". And to frustrate me even more, a reboot thereafter.

Makes sense! A friend of mine pretty much broke her laptop by turning it off mid-update. Not sure why she thought that was a good idea. But yes, my heart literally sinks when I see that message.. Usually because I needed to do something at the time (why else would I be using it?).
