Getting on the Dark Web on Ubuntu #1
Introduction
The "dark web" is just a nice awesome buzz word for tor hidden services, which are onion sites, operated on the tor network. The first thing you are going to need to do is install tor, apparently. There is actually a very nice script (set of commands really) that you can execute to get tor up and running.

Code:
gksudo 'apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 886DDD89' sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org $(lsb_release -s -c) main" sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y --allow-unauthenticated install tor-geoipdb polipo sudo cp /etc/polipo/config /etc/polipo/config.bak sudo wget -O /etc/polipo/config http://gitweb.torproject.org/torbrowser.git/blob_plain/HEAD:/build-scripts/config/polipo.conf sudo service polipo restart

if you want a web based torrent downloader, to download torrents, add this to the end of the code above, or execute it later, whichever.

Code:
#adding transmission torrent client sudo add-apt-repository ppa:transmissionbt/ppa sudo apt-get -y update sudo apt-get -y install transmission-cli transmission-common transmission-daemon

Launching Tor
You simply type tor in your terminal and watch it go. Once it says "bootstrapped 100%", load your browser and change the proxy configuration to 127.0.0.1 and the port is 9050.

Code:
(xenial)sunjester@localhost:~/Downloads$ tor Nov 18 13:40:47.680 [notice] Read configuration file "/etc/tor/torrc". Nov 18 13:40:47.712 [notice] Scheduler type KIST has been enabled. Nov 18 13:40:47.712 [notice] Opening Socks listener on 127.0.0.1:9050 Nov 18 13:40:47.000 [notice] Parsing GEOIP IPv4 file /usr/share/tor/geoip. Nov 18 13:40:48.000 [notice] Parsing GEOIP IPv6 file /usr/share/tor/geoip6. Nov 18 13:40:48.000 [notice] Bootstrapped 0%: Starting Nov 18 13:40:50.000 [notice] Starting with guard context "default" Nov 18 13:40:50.000 [notice] Bootstrapped 80%: Connecting to the Tor network Nov 18 13:40:50.000 [notice] Bootstrapped 85%: Finishing handshake with first hop Nov 18 13:40:50.000 [notice] Bootstrapped 90%: Establishing a Tor circuit Nov 18 13:40:52.000 [notice] Tor has successfully opened a circuit. Looks like client functionality is working. Nov 18 13:40:52.000 [notice] Bootstrapped 100%: Done

Onion Sites
There are websites on the dark web for car ding, murder for hire and other nasty things, so be careful where you go and what you buy. There used to a forum called Hell (http://hell2bjhfxm77htq.onion/), it was seized by the FBI, but recently I heard it's back online, but be careful. Duckduckgo supports indexing onion sites, you can check out this search and find some for yourself, https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%22.onion%22+h...=h_&ia=web

Here are some of the onion links I currently surf:

Dream Market
http://t3e6ly3uoif4zcw2.onion/

Valhalla

Point

Silk Road

Wallstreet Market

Good tutorial for beginners, you might want to remove some of the links because they go against the rules on this forum.

You forgot to mention that you can use a web2onion service. I have published a tool a few months ago that does that.

I've removed those deemed In breach of forum rules.

A couple of links are timing out, so I'll check back later.

Doesn't suite what he was trying to say in this thread.

Where are the rules, I must have missed them. Are the onion links the rule breaker?

Any specific reason to go through the terminal as opposed to the normal browser download and open process? Just wondering.

Might get a more up-to-date version going through their git, but other than that, I hardly use a desktop environment so it's just easier for me, and may be faster as well. I noticed there was another tutorial here about it, I thought I would share the terminal way of doing it Smile

It's actually the type of content contributed.

For example, advertising/linking a competitive board Irrespective of the link (clear web or dark web) Is not permitted. The rules are found here. You can also read about our advertising policy here.

If you're not sure whether a given post Is In breach of forum rules, simply shoot me a PM.
