Trump Demands for $2000 Stimulus Check #1
There's been bipartisan support for a $2000 check, instead of the original $600. The original $600 one will likely be sent first.

Spoiler:
If things get catastrophic, toilet paper might become worth more than bills.

Quote:Unsatisfied with the $900 billion stimulus deal that Congress passed on Monday, Trump urged lawmakers to amend the legislation, and threatened to oppose it otherwise. “I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000 ... and to send me a suitable bill or else the next administration will have to deliver a Covid relief package,” he said in a speech posted to Twitter Tuesday evening. Trump’s chief demands included cutting what he described as extraneous spending and increasing the amount of stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000.

That's a huge Increase of $1,400.

I assume It will have a significant Impact on the economy.

Historically, nothing like this has happened before. I'm curious how they went from giving 600 less to 1400 more.

I'm a bit lost about the numbers that are being discussed. Hopefully the economy will recover as time goes on, once the vaccines are approved and rolled out of course.

Good God the last stimulus check that was proposed by Congress was an insult to The United States. Everything about it was a joke. A bill containing 5,000 pages just so we can recieve $600? And if you take a look at the fine print, you'll see some sneaky things Congress tried to push through within the bill that don't even pertain to 'stimulus'. Nearly 2 billion dollars were supposed to go to foreign nations as a part of "foreign aid" and "gender studies". There was also a new law included in the bill making the illegal streaming of pirated content a felony, which can carry up to 10 years.

I'm actually somewhat opposed to stimulus checks in the first place. It decreases the value of our dollar, and also creates incentive for unemployed people to stay home and stay unemployed.

But if you're going to pass a stimulus bill in the first place, make sure it's concise, provides a reasonable amount of money, and is also stripped of any money for aid to foreign nations.

I certainly agree, It's easily abused.

It's unfortunate that some people think and act along the lines of: "Why should I work when I get paid for doing nothing?".

Very much agreed, in reality it does contributes to inflation. The fact they tried to sideload a bunch of provisions for interest groups and foreign aid is pretty disgusting.

During the Great Depression there was no such thing as a "stimulus check". However, I don't think $600 is enough to keep someone that is unemployed afloat very long.

It depends on one's circumstances.

If you live alone with one mouth to feed, and a house paid off and no debts, $600 Is more than enough.
I'm speaking from experience.

It would probably last a lot longer in those circumstances, but I doubt it would be a nice or manageable lifestyle. The original stimulus check ($1200) was sent in April, and I doubt many people survived 9 months on that money alone. At the very least, I don't see it being an incentive to remain unemployed. The average rent for most states is $800+/month.

I've really struggled to understand why these cheques are the amount they are. Everyone's needs are totally different from one person to the next. So why aren't these more means tested? And why is it one lump sum here and there. And what the hell is $600 going to do for a family out of work and unable to hit rent?
