Thought for Future of SEd Electronics Device #1
Hi SEers,

Are we going to a new paradigm with more and more device linked to online account? I know that first rule is never use SE'd device for yourself but in he near future do you think we will hit a wall with SE'd electronic device ?

I mean nowadays device need to be registered to benefits to special function, upgrade and so one. Consoles, Phones and even Laptop are identified with their S/N. Company are able to track their device and we own only a license to use them.

In case of SE'd with DNA method, device are identified as stolen and could be blacklisted. However not every retail company link the S/N on the invoice. I know that is a common practice in Germany and for many small company.

What's your point of view ?

I had this thought in my own before getting a Microsoft Surface. But that typically the new kind of device that are a bit too talkative with Microsoft servers... Call me paranoid.

Take care and peace.

Not only with the DNA method, but also with any other that deems the device as not belonging to the account holder.

As you've mentioned, not all companies keep record of the serial/IMEI, but there's more possibility (than not) to blacklist the device.

I'd only be worried about keeping apple iPhones that were marked as stolen because they can be icloud locked. You gotta think that lots of these kids refunding are doing it to keep the things for themselves and if they were constantly having problems we would hear about it in the boards which we have not.
