How do they check to see if you're downloading copyright'd material anyway?
I imagine the process is automated, and if that's the case, would encrypting data work?

General rule, if it's encrypted, they can't read it.

They don't have to read the file to know when you're using a P2P network, and they don't have to let you keep using their service if they think you're pirating.
