RE: Scenario Discussion. #11
Rehap costs money and doesn't work. At least not for everyone. I have lost a parent to drug use and they spent significant portions of my childhood in rehab.

Look at it this way, you have blood-borne disease that can be transmitted via shared needles. That blood-borne disease can then be shared to partners and future children.

You argue that its costing the taxpayers money for a few syringes. I would argue that a lifetime of medical support for the person, their partners, and their children as being far more costly. Anything that can be done to prevent that is going to be a far cheaper in the long run.

Teaching drug users not to share needles would be the best bet, and supervised injection facilities is the best method for this. Not only do you have the opportunity to get people talking and informed, you can also help prevent or assist in the case of an overdose or other medical emergency. Is this costly? yes? but it would have a greater social impact. Like a reduction of disposed needles in unsafe places. Fewer people hanging around parks late at night (Safer neighbourhoods?) and who knows what else.

Although, yes, it's a great idea, I thinks it's too thin of a line between the rights and wrongs in this, so it'd probably be better not to; having in mind the structure of any society ^^

Yeah, I agree completely. there is a very good reason these are illegal and if you want nto do them you have to pay the price

People who are saying "just get them to rehab" are kind of missing the bigger picture. Many of these people are very low income, homeless, overall not in great shape. Rehab costs A LOT of money, thousands and thousands of dollars per person. These people don't have the money, nor does the taxpayer.

Needle exchanges have been shown to help reduce the sharing of needles. The spreading of blood born illness is because of the needle sharing.

Look at the shit people do to themselves for a high:
