Royal Mail 1st Class question? #1
If i order an item online from a company and there's no tracking, and there was no signature required is the SE almost guaranteed to work?

I believe the company still get a notification on the receipt number saying the item has been delivered..

Thoughts/experiences?

Pretty much yes. There's no way they can without a doubt prove that you personally received said item. However depending on the value they may want to investigate and it is your job to provide the least amount of red flags possible to ensure a successful outcome. Goodluck.

Perfect DNA material. They've basically SEd themselves (so to speak).

Do remember that a package that's marked as delivered, Is by no means an Indication that you've personally received It.

Given a signature Is not required on delivery, your justification that you haven't personally received It, cannot be declined.

Thanks for the reply. Can the company refuse to refund even if there's no tracking or signature? I don't think it would be a problem if they did because they wouldn't stand anywhere if my credit card provider did a chargeback for the transaction, am i correct in thinking that?

I understand that a small number of companies would send the item without tracking or a signature, but if they do this with an item that's around £400 - £500 for example, something just tells me that they would know it's been delivered. I was also reading that the Royal Mail can notify the seller the item has been delivered even if the company just uses standard 1st Class, but then it just comes back to the beginning i guess where there's no tracking or signature and the company can't prove i received that item.

They'd need a reason to do so, which would be extremely difficult, If not Impossible.

In other words, they cannot decline a claim without justifying their decision. In the absence of a tracking number and authorizing signature, It's not possible to conclusively deem that the package was delivered and accepted by the account holder.

Thanks. Do you know if Royal Mail 24 can be sent without tracking?

From memory, I believe they have a "first & second class parcel service", that Is not tracked during transit.

Have a read of their terms to see whether this applies.

That's correct. I think that the item is scanned when being delivered but isn't tracked or signed for. Is this still pointing towards a successful SE?

They need records of what they're delivering, so the package will definitely be scanned when dispatched.

Given It's not tracked nor a signature required on receipt of the package, this Is a huge advantage to the SE'r. They have no digital evidence to conclude that the package was delivered and due to the absence of a signature, they cannot deem that the account holder personally received It.

As such, It all comes down to the driver's report which (under the circumstances), means very little.

Royal Mail 24 get a delivery scan, so they will scan it before handing it over / posting it through your door. It will show as delivered when tracked. This is standard and has pretty much replaced 1st class for business's. You can also upgrade it to ask for a signature.
