"Better" evaluates multiple aspects. Movies will have aspects that aren't existent in books and vice versa. I don't know if I need to provide you with a particular example, but reading the Mission Impossible books was tedious.

I've never experienced this either. It's always been on a scale from horrific to it was ok but the book was better.

I used to read tons of the "Hardy Boys" series by Franklin W. Dixon.
It's about two adventurous young sleuths.
Other than that, probably "Ghost in the Wires" by Kevin Mitnick.

For those of you who like "Ghost in the Wires" by Kevin Mitnick, definitely read -
Title: Kingpin
Author: Kevin Poulsen (old school hacker/phreaker, active at the same time as Mitnick, Kevin is now an editor at Wired magazine)
Genre: Non-fiction/cyber crime
Why is it so great: Who would not want to read the true story of "How One Hacker Took Over the Billion-Dollar Cybercrime Underground". I read the whole book in one day..
