Lesson learned: only use serial numbers from very very recent eBay ads so you minimize the chances of them having already been used for SE…
How does the SN work? As I’ve got a serial number of a fairly new MacBook… do I just message apple say it’s broken and they will send one to my address ? Even tho I haven’t got a clue where the actual mac is in the county
Essentially yes. But I personally wouldn't touch Apple with a ten foot pole as of today. Waste of time and their customer service has become an angering, pitiful joke.
Some recent successes:
Sonos Sub, SN + envelope method, $900
Sonos Beam, SN + envelope method, $500
Google Pixel Buds Pro, SN + empty envelope method, $200
Jlab earphones, SN method, no RMA needed, $100
Jlab headphones, SN method, no RMA needed, $100
Sephora (Dyson Airwrap), empty envelope method, $900 (claim took over a month of continuous follow-ups, do not recommend)
Some recent fails:
Hiboy electric scooter: SN method worked all summer long, manufacturer now cross-checking invoices, which means we cannot use fake invoices anymore. Excellent customer service anyway
Anker Nebula projector: SN + disposed of faulty item method, used to work until at least September, now cross-checking invoices and refusing to deal with claims when item purchased outside their website/Amazon
